My literary vision

I've dabbled in writing since I was a boy, everything from poetry to short stories to novels to . . . well, you name it and I've probably written at least one example.  As I matured physically and mentally, so too did my view of writing as a craft worthy of professional devotion.  My view of what literature is and should be has also evolved.

On the most fundamental level, I write because something inside me needs to come out.  But for me, truly valuable writing is more than a release valve.  What I call noble literature does more.  It inspires greatness and goodness in others.  It aspires to influence others to envision and create a better world.

My desire for my writing --- both fiction and nonfiction --- is to accomplish that end.  Given that I love out-of-the-box thinking, I'm not interested in writing books with titles like How to Achieve Greatness.  I prefer simply to strive for professionalism and then let my work speak for itself.  People can and should decide for themselves whether to embrace or to reject it.  If I do my job well enough, the honest in heart will embrace it.

People are great when they follow their passion and excel at it.  People are good when they use their talents to make a positive difference in the lives of others.  And when people are both great and good, the world is changed for the better.

I believe that all of us have the potential to be both great and good.  And I aspire to inspire others to fulfill that potential.
